Custom HTTP SMS gateway: connect any SMS API to Ultra SMS

Most SMS gateways have a simple HTTP API. Describe yours once and Ultra SMS sends through it.

What Ultra SMS asks for

Values to copy from Custom HTTP API
Method and URLYour gateway's API documentation: the send-SMS address and whether it is POST, GET or PUT.
HeadersOne per line, usually an API key, for example Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY.
Body format and Body templateJSON, Form, Raw text or No body, written with the placeholders {{to}}, {{message}}, {{sender}}, {{entity_id}} and {{template_id}}.
Number format for {{to}}+919876543210 (E.164), 919876543210 (no +) or 9876543210 (national), as your gateway expects.
Success when body containsA word the API returns only on success, such as "status":"success", or a /pattern/ between slashes.
Optional extrasMessage ID (JSON path), Status URL with {{id}} and Delivered when status contains, for delivery reports; Credential check URL, so Test credentials works.

Steps

  1. Find the send-SMS section of your gateway's API documentation.
  2. In Ultra SMS add a gateway and choose Custom HTTP API.
  3. Enter the method, URL, headers and body template, using the placeholders for the number and message.
  4. Set Success when body contains, and optionally the message ID path and status URL for delivery reports.
  5. Send a test message to your own phone and check the response shown in the test result.

Good to know

  • Use HTTPS addresses only, so your API key is never sent in plain text.
  • Ask your gateway whether the number must include the + sign or the country code without it.

Before you send through a custom gateway

A custom gateway is only as reliable as the success check you give it, so copy the exact word or pattern your provider returns when a message is accepted. Your gateway charges per message at its own rates, and country rules such as India DLT or US 10DLC still apply. Send one real test to your own phone before you start a campaign.
