MessageBird bulk SMS setup for Ultra SMS
Bird, formerly MessageBird. SMS through a channel in your Bird workspace.
What Ultra SMS asks for
| API key | app.bird.com: Settings, Security, Access keys. Create a key with SMS permissions; it starts with bk_us1_ or bk_eu1_. |
|---|---|
| Region | US (us1) or EU (eu1), matching the start of your key. |
| Category | Marketing, Transactional, Service or Authentication, to match what you send. |
| Sender ID (From) | Optional: a number or sender ID registered in your Bird workspace. Leave it empty to use the default. |
Steps
- Create a Bird workspace and install an SMS channel with a number or sender ID.
- Create an API key with SMS permissions.
- In Ultra SMS add a gateway, choose Bird (platform API), paste the API key, and pick the matching region and the category.
- Send a test message to your own phone.
Good to know
- Bird's dashboard was redesigned when MessageBird became Bird, so older help articles show different menus.
- Still on an older MessageBird account? Choose MessageBird (classic REST API) in the app instead, with your live access key from Developers, API access.
Before you send through Bird (MessageBird)
Bird (MessageBird) charges per message segment at its own rates, which depend on the destination country. Check that your sender is allowed in each country you text. Business traffic to the USA normally needs A2P 10DLC registration or a verified toll-free number, and India needs DLT registration. Use Test credentials first, then send one real test to your own phone.
Dashboards change their menus from time to time; if a label differs, look for the API keys or developer section. Stuck? See the Ultra SMS troubleshooting table, the Ultra SMS user guide, or contact us.
