AWS End User Messaging bulk SMS setup for Ultra SMS

Steps

1. In the AWS console create an IAM user or key allowed to call sms-voice:SendTextMessage and sms-voice:DescribeAccountAttributes.
2. Pick the region where your numbers or sender IDs live.
3. New accounts start in a sandbox: request production access in the AWS End User Messaging console.
4. In Ultra SMS open the Gateways tab, click Add gateway, choose AWS End User Messaging SMS, and paste the keys and pick the region. Click Test credentials (it sends nothing).
5. Send a test message to your own phone before you start a campaign.

Good to know

• Sending to US numbers from an ordinary 10-digit number needs A2P 10DLC registration (a brand and a campaign) in the gateway's console first; toll-free numbers need toll-free verification. Unregistered US traffic is blocked or filtered by the carriers.
• Sending to Indian numbers needs DLT registration: your Entity ID, an approved sender ID (header) and the Template ID of an approved content template. Ultra SMS has fields for all three. See the India DLT chapter of the manual.
• This gateway has no delivery look-up in Ultra SMS, so its messages show as Sent, not Delivered. Check the gateway's own dashboard or reports for final delivery.

Before you send through AWS End User Messaging SMS

AWS End User Messaging SMS charges per message segment at its own rates, which depend on the destination country. Check that your sender is allowed in each country you text. Business traffic to the USA normally needs A2P 10DLC registration or a verified toll-free number, and India needs DLT registration. Use Test credentials first, then send one real test to your own phone.
